Communicating with Terpenes

The molecule of sensation 

Each moment we spend outside with the awareness of our connection with nature, or we sit to consciously eat a meal, our sensory systems are activated due to an abundant molecule called terpenes. Terpenes are present throughout the entire plant kingdom and are the reason why aromatherapy and sensory activation is possible. As human beings our receptors communicate with the over 20,000 different terpenes found in plants in order for us to smell, taste, and feel the benefits of earths gifts. Terpenes are the reason why we are able to smell the earth after it rains, smell candles as thy are burning and taste different flavors of CBD strains.

Humans are not the only creatures that receive information form terpenes, this organic compound plays an essential role in the existence and evolution of plant species. Certain terpenes attract pollinators while others deflect invasive or harmful species. 

Terpenes, the key ingredient to CBD

We all know that CBD works directly with so many of our bodies systems and is able to miraculously be absorbed throughout different organs, lymph nodes and even tissues. This is made possible by a phenomenon referred to as the 'Entourage Effect.' Terpenes found in the hemp plant help to promote the absorption of CBD into our bloodstream. When specific terpenes are found within a strain of hemp, it also causes the CBD to activate in our bodies faster! 

They also are the reason behind the flavors of lavender, fruits, and honey as well as the olfactory experiences that are present in different kinds of CBD.

Pinene and Myrcene are the two most common terpenes found in CBD amongst the 100+ total terpenes that can be found in the hemp plant. Each individual one has a specific aroma, healing benefit, vaporizing point, and are directly shared with a specific set of other fruits, leaves, grasses, woods ext. For example Myrcene has a musky, herbal, clove, earth aroma and is also found in lemongrass, mango, thyme and hops.
